We got this infant seat from a local Once Upon a Child. We hadn't read any of the reviews, but picks it because of its soft seat and soft-pastel colors. Our baby passed out in it for hours in her first few weeks. Then, she hated sitting there and cried endelessly whenever we placed her there. We tried attaching the bunny, but she hated that even more. As she neared 8 weeks old, she learned to find comfort in a pacifier and would accept sitting there with a pacifier to sleep...sometimes.
Today, she is 10 weeks old and I finally had the sense to install batteries in it! Following a fit of 15 minutes of nonstop crying, she cried on and off for another 10 mintes to the vibrations and music, then passed out altogether. This is the first day in almost two weeks that she has fallen so soundly asleep there. The music is gorgeous, by the way.
Another plus is is compact foldability. Very easy to fold and carry from location to location. I wish this were the case for all baby gear, although if you research and choose wisely, there are plenty of options out there.
We LOVE that it is so soft and accomodates up to 25 pounds. Our 2 and 3/4 year old son is only about 22-23 pounds and still sits there.
Be careful to always buckle baby in or else she slides downwards pretty easily and quickly.

I have been using the Baby Papasan for 4 months.
What I like about it:
1. Very portable - folds flat, easy to carry from room to room (I bring him into the kitchen while I am cooking or in the bathroom so I can shower and keep an eye on him), or to bring to grandma's house to have a safe place to sit (more comfortable than staying in the carseat)
2. Comfortable baby insert provides padding around head and body
3. Washable padding a must
4. Gentle vibration and music. I prefer not to over-stimulate my baby, so I like the volume and vibrate level of this chair. Simple control switch has music only, vibration only or music and vibration.
5. Arm can be positioned over baby or easily swings back to take baby in or out or just get out of way, also easy to pop off to remove. Arm has a mirror and small stuffed bunny toy attached with velcro. Very minimal entertainment, but baby does like to swing at the bunny.
6. Safety belt around waist and through legs.
What could be improved:
1. More padding at foot area by music/vibration control panel. Since my baby is a bit long, his feet hang over the edge and the back of his feet hit this control box. While the chair is very comfortable, this area lacks padding and I would prefer it the chair had a bit more length in the bottom and more padding over this control to protect the feet. I end up sliding him up a bit or putting a small blanket over this area.
2. While I like this chair, some people may prefer one with more toys. This is not an "entertainment" chair. It's a comfortable place to sit and watch the world or to sleep (though my son rarely sleeps in it). I prefer a play gym or blanket and toys on the floor for entertainment. This chair does not have many toys, flashing lights etc that you could find in other chairs.
3. This chair does not "bounce". Some chairs allow the chair to rock with baby's own movement which I think would be nice as the baby gets a little older (3 months or so). But I like the stability of this unit too.
In general baby chairs are good for young babies as a safe place that you can position around the house. They have a nice incline so baby is not flat on their back, but are easily overgrown as a child prefers to sit fully upright. While I like this model, you have to decide whether you want a chair just as a comfortable seat, as an optional sleeping place or as an entertainment spot. This is good for the first two reasons, not a very effective entertainer (but I would prefer not to overstimulate for the first 3 months anyway).

The papasan chair is my favorite baby gear item of all time. I received it as a baby shower gift 4 years ago when we adopted our daughter. She loved that chair...fell asleep in it right away and stayed asleep. She hated every other bouncy seat (we had 2 others). It was a life-saver for 3-4 months, but then she wanted a more stimulating bouncy seat. We also used it for my now 6 month old son and it was the same for him...he slept so well in it and was so happy the minute you put him in it. He had a bad cold when he was 2 months old and had to sleep upright...the only way he would sleep was in that chair next to our bed. He was also done with it around 3-4 months. But I'm a firm believer that if you can get good, daily use out of an item during those first 3-4 months it is well worth every penny. I'm buying this for a friend who's about to have her 2nd baby.

10/2004 - After reading some of the other reviews I felt like I had to comment on this chair. We borrowed this chair from a friend and our baby LOVES it. We don't use it like a bouncy chair or a swing, we use it more like a cradle. Our son has been using the chair since he was first home from the hospital and he is almost four months old now and we use it everyday. His first "sleep through the night" night was in this chair. It is so warm and cozy and the best thing is that it cradles the baby so that if your little one learns to roll over to his tummy like mine did, he won't be able to so he will stay safe on his back. This chair could easily replace the cradle in our room!
08/2009 - We just had our fourth child and this infant seat is still the best thing we purchased - our son takes all of his naps and sleeps a night in this seat. It cradles him so that he doesn't startle and wake himself up - we have tried naps in the cradle and on our bed, and nothing works like this seat! It is easy to clean and the batteries last forever, it is even great second hand so don't hesitate to look at a resell shop!

I bought this directly from the Fisher Price website for I believe the $35- $40 range on sale. I like it just fine. It fits easily in my bathroom and I can put the baby in it while I take a shower. She can get by 15 minutes with no vibration or music until she gets bored. Then she will get by with 15 minutes of vibration and music before she gets bored again. By that time, I am showered and dressed. I wouldn't pay the regular price for it though.
