We must have bought a defective one because I'll tell you, this thing was a problem from the get go. The movement of the fish and plants caused a very loud and annoying clicking sound and replacing the batteries is a pain. Despite all this we kept it for the music and now 7 months later, the water has evaporated so the fish looks as if it's swimming in a shallow pond. If you're a busy mom who doesn't have time to hunt down your sales reciepts and drive all the way back to the store to return things, don't buy one of these.

I've had this since before my 4 month old was born and just a week ago figured out it plays other music! I thought it only played Pachelbel's canon.
This entertains my son for short periods when he is in his crib. It's soft, comforting light soothes him when he's in a bad, cranky mood so that is invaluble. (Although he won't fall asleep to it-- too bright).
It is difficult to change the battery and to get on and off the crib, but we don't move it much.
When we had it on his playpen, it used to go on all by itself (I guess the light from the digital clock in the living room actived the remote sensor?) and we had to cover it with a towel at night. Since we moved it into his room we haven't had that problem (and thank goodness, because it'd wake him up otherwise!)
The toy is so charming and cute.

The old fisher price aquarium without the remote is nice and not as flimsy hooking to the crib. This one though has a better picture and the remote. It is much cheaper through other site like Target and Wal mart so beware. The old aquarium is also on sale here for 98 dollars!!!! HUH? The new one is 37 dollars through target.

My daughter loves this product - the fish moves nicely, the sounds it makes are high quality, the lights go on and off, even the remote control is there to help parents control the toy from across the room. But there is a problem that transforms this product from a cool toy to a mere plastic box with a motionless fish: changing batteries is rather painful. This wouldn't be nearly as bad if the batteries lasted for a long time; unfortunately, they rarely last for more than a month.
The product is strapped to the crib with two flat plastic straps on the back. The connection is very secure - it is impossible for a child to undo it. Not surprisingly, it is extremely hard for an adult, too. This wouldn't be nearly as bad if you could strap it once, and forget about it; unfortunately, you must unstrap it every time you change batteries.
The result is that once the batteries run out, you have to go through the pain of unstrapping the box to access its back, where the batteries are. Since it's not as easy a task as changing batteries should be, one tends to procrastinate, rendering the product useless in the meantime. To give you an idea of how bad strapping and unstrapping really is, look at the picture of the product's back at the top of the page (at the time of writing, it's the third picture from the left). Note how the product is just hanging from the crib there - it's not strapped in even on the photograph! Given the difficulties of unstrapping it, though, I cannot blame the photographer for leaving the straps out.
Each of the following could have addressed this problem: moving the battery compartment to the bottom, making the straps easier to undo, or making the batteries last longer. Unfortunately, it's the combination of these three shortcomings not being addressed that reduces the usability of the product. Until the issue is fixed, the thing often hangs on the side of the crib without a sound. In that sad state it deserves only two stars.

Pros -
1 - Bubbles - just enough action to get their attention
2 - Lots of available adjustments to volume, music type, etc
3 - Stays on long time (18 minutes)
4 - Easily attaches to crib
Only Con - Placement of buttons
The buttons you use to adjust the volume/music/etc are on the top/back of unit so its a little hard to adjust the settings when its attached to the back of the crib.
Overall - It got my 1 year old to fall asleep on his own! The first night was same as usual (when put to bed awake but tired, he cried & screamed for 10-15 minutes before giving up) but we stuck with it and by the second night, he understood what was going on (cried for about 1 min). Its part of our routine now! Bought another one for the beach house - consistency : ) Now, we say "time to go ni-ni" and we lay him down in the crib and he looks over to the aquarium waiting for us to turn it on! My mom says its the best thing we have ever bought : )
