"Handles rough play pretty well" 2010-08-07
By V. Madrid (Los Angeles, CA)
I received this as a hand-me-down from a cousin and it was missing the toys/rattles but it worked great just the same. At first my baby didn't really enjoy it when he was about 2 - 3 months old. By the time my LO was 6 months old, I dragged this out of storage again and this time, he loves it! I did end up buying the attachments brand new from an Ebay seller and that just added to my LO's fun. He loves to be rough on the rotating disk that houses the 'aquarium' and he likes to stand in front of it instead of sit down.

We enjoy the calypso music a lot - a break from all the usual baby tunes of all his other toys. It is built pretty sturdily and I am glad I got this - even as a hand-me-down. It's one of my son's favorite toys and he loves to scream and shake the bar that houses the music and aquarium thing pretty roughly and it's withstood the rough handling so far.

 "Loooooove this toy" 2007-08-09
By rnkwissie (Pleasanton, CA United States)
My sister had this toy for her son, and he loved it. When my 3 month old and I went to visit, she got to "play" in the boat, and she LOVED it!! She kicked, and watched the moving wheel that lit up. The music isn't too bad either, kinda a Carribean twist to Row Your Boat and other favorites. The other really nice thing about this toy is the length of the songs...you can just turn this bad boy on, and it goes for a while. It also has the ability to have the baby provoke it to make sounds. Our girl loves this so much we put it inside her pack and play and she just plays and plays.

 "Best Gym We Had!" 2007-07-03
By Mom In Training (CA, USA)
We had 4 different baby gyms because we had registered for 2 and then got 2 random ones. This was one of the random ones and boy were we happy someone got it for us. Our daughter LOVED this gym way longer than any of her other toys. She is now almost 18 months and while the gym has been put away awhile back, we still have all the toy attachments out to play with. We used to have all our gyms sitting out on the ground next to eachother and there were 2 in particular she liked best. The regular baby einstein one (not water play one) and this one. She loved looking at the lights and listening to the music at first. Then she started getting the hang of kicking and swatting at the toys. After that she enjoyed pulling on the toys and shaking them and gnawing at them. When she started sitting up she loved "driving the boat" to make the music go. She played with this until she started pulling up because then it is a bit dangerous. I highly recommend this item and think that if your child doesn't like it, like some reviewers said, it just means it doesn't match their temperment. Our child has always been a physical girl who needed a lot of activity, motion, and interaction. This provided all of those things for many months!

"It really is something that you do not know you need until you buy it." 2007-04-16
By Mistie Wisniewski (Alexandria, VA)
I was lucky enough that a friend let me borrow this with my first son when he was about 3 months old (He is now almost 2). We were hesitant at first but immediatley this this toy replaced his expensive bouncer and swing. This toy was amazing. He loved it. I could finally do dishes, clean... he was extremly happy and loved the music. He would lay there and kick and laugh.... My husband and I also realized that after awhile, when we would lay Josh on the bed he looked up at the celing fan and starting kicking. It really appeared he was trying to make the ceiling fan move like the toy. When I found out I was pregnant again I had to find one of these for our next son. We could not imagine life without this. I vowed that this would be a gift I would buy for any new parent. It really is something that you do not know you need until you try it.

 "Not bad" 2007-01-10
By J. Craft
This Item is perfect for when your baby is just lying there or when they can fully sit up by themselves. It is not so great when they can roll over. Our little one tends to get twisted and stuck and rolls off of it and isn't very comfortable right now but will be back to loving it once she can fully sit up. :)

 "10 minutes??? Really???" 2009-09-04
By R. Heminger (Auburn, IN)
Ok, I didn't purchase this aquarium, it was given to me by someone whose son didn't use it much. Good thing I didn't pay for it or I would be really unhappy. At first I thought it was great. My son loved it. The first time I tried to use it to calm him and put him to sleep however, I discovered 10 minutes were just not enough. He would just start to go to sleep when it would shut off. That made him made. For as much money as this thing costs, there should be a time setting too so you can choose how long it plays. I am going to go buy one that actually plays longer at a time. Hope this helps you.

 "Beware! batteries leak!" 2009-05-23
By D. Kirby (Cleveland, OH)
This crib toy was great until the battery acid began to leak and trickled the rails of the crib and of course my daughter got it on her hands and mouth. Fortunately she didn't get any burns on her skin or mouth but this stuff has lead in it and all sorts terrible things. I was VERY upset. We have had the toy for a little over a year. I'm just surprised I haven't seen any recalls.

"Overall great and useful for a long time" 2009-02-12
By J. Beck
We got this for my son for Christmas when he was a baby, so he'd have something to replace his mobile when he outgrew it. While I completely agree with reviewers that it is a pain to install and remove (very poorly designed in that regard), my son is 2 1/2 and still loves it. The bubbles stopped working by the time we changed the batteries the first time, but my son didn't seem to care about the bubbles anyway. Since he moved into a big boy bed, we removed the aquarium and put in on his bedside table, and it really helped him make the transition. We usually keep it on the music and lights setting, and I don't think it's too bright (although his room is pretty dark otherwise, so it also functions as a bit of a nightlight for going to sleep). It is certainly well worth what we paid (not the $88 I'm noticing it for on Amazon today, although FP may have discontinued this model in favor of the waterfall soother).

"Great product and great gift!" 2008-11-06
By TheLoric (Gainesville, FL, USA)
I should have written my review much sooner because we've been using this crib toy for about 20 months now and both the parents and baby love it!

Pay close attention to the "Product Description" of the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Musical Aquarium Crib Attachment, which states: "It Measures 13.38" x 4.5" x 11" and fits most standard cribs."

None of the 4-in-1 sleep systems or convertible style cribs are what is considered a "standard crib" for this definition. [...]

This will not fit cribs that have a really wide top rail, or what I call the "sleigh-type" rail (see D. Lovely's customer image). The rail that is shown in the manufacturer's picture is narrow similar to what the "standard" or "traditional" cribs have.

For those who have had trouble installing it, what about trying to attach it at the head or foot of the crib instead? That is where we installed ours because it seemed more logical than the sides of the crib in order for the baby to look at it and play with it, even though ours would fit on either of the head/foot or side rails.

Also take note that there are screws for both attaching the battery box to the toy itself and screws for the battery box cover. It seems some people did not find all of the screws or did not have the instructions, etc.

I really like the fact that the battery box unscrews from the toy itself in order to replace the batteries; it's much more convenient than having to remove the entire thing from the crib to reach the battery compartment. With this newer model (produced in 2005 and discontinued in 2007) it plays 4 songs or 2 sound effects for 10 minutes and has 3 modes of play with lights, movement, bubbles, and music. It even has two little toys - a rolling crab and a starfish in a ball for babies to roll and play with. For $30 (original retail price), I think it does quite a bit and has worked wonderfully for us. My child can now even turn it on and change the modes and music without mommy or daddy's help.

 "Great swing!" 2009-09-25
By V. Williamson (Boston, MA)
We had another take-along swing that was very similar to this one for my first daughter. She loved it, and so when that one finally died (it had been passed down to me from another family), we got this Aquarium take-along swing. And now my 2nd daughter is really enjoying it. She loves to look at the lights and I think it's great that she can reach the hanging toys and turn on the music herself (a feature that a lot of other swings don't have). The handle bar on top is a little higher than our first take-along swing, which is just perfect for being able to take her out without hitting her head (which did happen sometimes with the first swing). Plus, it doesn't take up much space and it's easy to move from room to room if needed.

The first swing I received was defective and I didn't realize until it was basically all put together. Taking it apart was a MAJOR pain! My husband had to unscrew things that had come already assembled to be able to take it apart. The 2nd one we got looked fine. After it was put together we noticed when it was at speed 8 it went slower then speed 7. 8 is supposed to be the fastest and was more like 1. Maybe I just got 2 bad ones of this swing, but either way, I'm not getting a 3rd to find out!

 "THIS SWING ROCKS!!!!" 2009-03-22
By Michelle R. Mabry (chicago)
We didn't get a swing for our baby shower and at first I was going to buy one. Then a friend gave me this swing as a "hand me down" after using it with TWINS (double the use). At first it sat in our garage until one day I was desperate and pulled it out. Our child LOVES this swing. When he is in it he cannot take his eyes off the lights. Now he is old enough to pull the toys and make the lights and music go himself. While awake this swing amuses him greatly, however he ALWAYS ends up falling asleep in it. I love the size- I can easily sit down on floor and face him to interact. I can easily move it from room to room without banging up the walls. When we have people over or are traveling it folds up and becomes compact. I am now purchasing a 2nd one so we can bring one to grandma's house. I highly recommend this for every reason but mostly the lights and music that my son seems to be entranced with. It does go thru batteries alot...but we use it alot. If it came with a plug it would get 10 stars!

 "Life saver!" 2009-07-22
By Katherine M. Deweese (Tacoma, WA United States)
Wow. My son loves this bouncy seat. Not only does it entertain him, but also he finds it comfortable enough to fall asleep in. We use this every day. A godsend for when Mommy needs to shower or run out front to grab the mail or make dinner.

I like that the music/power controls are atop the "screen" and not at my child's feet. There are a variety of options for sounds and music. The seat can be put on a baby-operated mode so that it will only make sounds as long as baby is kicking the toys or bouncing in the seat. If baby falls asleep, the sounds turn off.

The fabric on the seat comes off easily and can be thrown in the washing machine. Very easy to clean.

The reason I give it four stars, not five, is that it gobbles up batteries.

 "Don't recommend it." 2009-06-27
By brandylynn (Georgia)
We bought this item second hand in like new condition. The vibrations work but the chair isn't really made to support a newborn, baby kind of just fell over to the side because the chair isn't made to cradle baby's little head and shoulders. The attachment is probably not going to be turned on. It looks great and has lots of bright colors and little toys to kick, but the bubbles are LOUD like a machine gun. It's crazy. And the water in the aquarium is half evaporated with no visible leak. I'd shop around.

"Kind of a weird bouncer..." 2009-05-23
By KristaMV (Massachusetts)
There are some nice things about this bouncer, but it's also kind of weird.

It's a very comfy seat; the shape of the seat makes my twins fall asleep every time. The battery compartment has two separate areas for the vibrate vs. the activity bar, which is very nice and a feature I haven't seen in the other bouncers I have.

The weird part is the activity bar. It's got these VERY loud bubbles that sound a little bit like a machine gun. I find it annoying and my girls don't seem to be partiicularly interested in it. The toys hang a little low and out of reach, and the lights don't seem to entertain them, either. Finally, the vibrate button is flush with the rest of the plastic and very difficult to turn on or off with your foot (which a mom of twins often wants to do).

My daughter really likes to sleep in it, so it's not all bad...just has some areas I'd like to see improved. I'd like to combine the seat and battery compartment from this one with the activity bar and vibrate button on the rainforest bouncer and then you'd have a great bouncer.

"Water in tank evaporates over time; how to refill" 2009-05-02
By antijean (Boston, MA)
My oldest son (5) loved this bouncer, so did the kid we passed it down to, and so does my youngest son.

It's already been amply reviewed but I thought people might be interested in how it ages:

- active toddlers WILL be fascinated with sitting on the chair part, and torture it until it's no longer safe for infants, so put this toy away promptly when the kids are too big to sit in it (we had to replace the seat after my friend's son broke it)

- the water in the tank evaporates over the years so the bubbles no longer do a good job spinning the starfish, etc.

We refilled the tank ourselves with the following equipment:

phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, heat gun, glue gun (or epoxy), big sterile syringe, sterile water

1. remove toy bar so it's no longer getting power

2. unscrew screws in the white part of the toy bar and open it up. Note the positions of the kick toys and buttons, which will probably fall out while you're trying to refill the tank.

3. on the upper part of the tank, search for the plug for the hole for filling the tank. It's sealed on with something like epoxy or hot glue

4. CAREFULLY blast the plug with heat gun until the sealant is soft enough that the plug can be pried off with flathead screwdriver

5. use the big syringe to top off the tank with more water.

We noticed that the old liquid in there made swirling patterns where it met the new water; we reckon that the old liquid might contain something like glycerin to make it more viscous, or preservatives to keep it from getting yucky

6. reseal the plug onto the tank with hot glue or epoxy... actually we lost the plug so we filled a small plastic button with hot glue and stuck that on... time will tell whether it does a good job sealing the water in

7. try out the toy bar in the seat and rejoice if it works!

8. take it out again and replace the buttons and kick toys (orange fish goes on the right hand side, from infant's point of view. The fish face in, towards each other.) Close up the toy bar.

Hope that helps keep some of these excellent toys out of the landfill!
