"Not for little little babies - great for 4-6 months and up." 2008-08-27
By Heather M (Midwest, USA)
We got this when my daughter was about 2 months old and it scared the pants off of her then. Elmo makes a big pop when he's playing peek a boo. But, we brought it out again a little after 4 month, and this thing saved our lives. She adored it. I could clean house. And she loved it until I want to say about a year. (She's a year and a half now and we just put it away.) When she really was getting around and able to get out other toys. She figured out quickly that by playing with the dangly toys she could set off the sounds. Adored it. We went through a lot of batteries. They don't last that long in this toy. Like one of the previous posters said, it'll get stuck on one note, but changing the batteries always fixed that. It seemed to go through batteries rather quickly, but if it let me take a shower and get the dishes done, I didn't care. :o)

 "Son likes it" 2008-08-05
By Pikake B. (Hawaii)
When we first got this, I thought the voice was so shrill (you know the phrase... "Peek-a-boo baby!") that it would scare my baby. Well, it didn't and he just loves it. Yes, the voice is annoying and yes, some of the buttons don't work like they should, but it does it's job as a toy for my son to play with. We got it when he was about 3 or 4 months and now he is 8 months. Now that he is crawling we have it in the corner of the living room and it blocks him from getting to a tall lamp. So that's nice. He visits it about once a day for 15-20 minutes.

By C. Volpe (New York, NY)
We just got this for our 7 month old. She loves pretty much anything Elmo and was laughing so much in the store whenever we activated the demo. We were sure that this was going to be her new favorite toy. After we got it home and together for her, she got bored very quickly with it and now will not give it the time of day. The box claims that this toy says over 40 phrases, but I feel as if it is more like 20. We already put it back in the box and have it ready to be returned for a refund.

The toy worked great for the first day. Now it will freeze up immediately after putting it on. You change the batteries and nothing changes. I wish I saw the bad reviews before I purchased it. My son really did like it, but it started scaring him when Elmo would freeze up.

"IT WAS COOL AT FIRST BUT THEN BROKE DOWN" 2007-05-14
By tryfekid (The Bay Area)
We saw this toy at Babies R Us and it looked like it was a good gym for our baby. We liked how it had many songs and that Elmo slides back and forth and plays peek-a-boo.

Our baby loved the gym. He would track Elmo from left to right and bat at the toys. However, after about a week, the music & Elmo started getting stuck. This happens when we left it in "Soothing Mode." This is the mode where the gym plays music continuously for about 10 mins. I thought turning it off and back on would help, but I was wrong. Also, replacing the batteries didn't help either.

I read the reviews here after buying it and thought that only some units were defective, but it seems as though most units are defective as many people are reporting the same problem. Good thing we kept the box and Babies R Us has a lenient return policy.

Bottom Line: Don't buy this gym, you'll end up returning it within a week.

 "Great!" 2008-07-09
By K. Cole (NY United States)
My daughter loved this from about 4 mos. to 9-10 mos. She kicked away at it. The music is very pleasant (classical!) , has volume control, and 3 different settings.

Like some people have said, it would be nice, maybe in future versions, to have alternative ways to mount it, or a stand of some sort for playing on the floor or something. My daugher also played with it when she was a little older, by holding it on her lap and pressing the keys. Since, as with most baby toys, it's still in great shape, I'm passing it along at a baby shower this weekend. I just hope my daughter, now 14 mos. doesn't pitch a fit when the mother-to-be opens it! We'll both be sad to see it go. It's one of those things.

Deinitely recommended!

"12 months of use and still going strong!" 2009-11-27
By Gennifer (Georgia)
We have had this crib soother for about 12 months now. When my daughter was around 5 months old, she figured out how to kick the parrot to get it turned on and it made her ever-so-happy. We never had any issues with the animals squeaking and we use a night light in her room so we do not have any issues with the lights being too bright. My daughter is 15 months old now and has found the switches on the side that control the lights and motion. Apparently she prefers just the music because every time I turn one of the others on, she switches it back to music only.

While I agree that it is a very daunting task to get the straps off, I would be more worried if they weren't difficult. Babies get smart and get rough with their toys... which poses a safety risk! I think the straps are so tight for safety reasons and therefore I am able to tolerate it. We only ran through batteries when we had this on full swing all of the time. Now that she prefers just music or music and lights (occasionally) we have changed the batteries maybe twice in the last 6 months. She will turn the music on when she's just playing in her room, too. So, this gets used at more than just bedtime and naptime. I think this will last until we get into a toddler bed and through the next little one!

We have another crib toy that I purchased a few months ago as a backup for when the soother needs the batteries changed or just to give her something different and it runs through batteries A LOT faster than this. The straps are almost as difficult on that one as the Rainforest soother but I have noticed my daughter has managed to get it somewhat loose from time to time. Overall, VERY happy with this purchase and I wish I had gotten it for her from the start.

 "A Real Comfort" 2009-11-12
By E. Levin
Our baby has used this since her second or third week of life. She's now 6 months old and beginning to interact with it. We play the nature sounds and lullabies when she goes down for her naps and for bed, and if she's slightly fussy we play it with the light function. It usually calms her down. It also functions for a really long time on battery power. We've only changed the batteries once, and we use it at least 4 times a day. My only problem with it is the method it uses to attach to the crib. The holes on the straps that are supposed to loop over the pegs are really small. Once you've put it on the crib, you will probably want to leave it there until your baby is in a bed.

"Great until water started to look rusty" 2009-11-09

"Our 5 month old twins love these" 2009-11-03
By Mandy H (Virginia, United States)
These are great soothers for our twin boys. It can captivate them for 10+ minutes and often times we turn just the music on before we lay them down in their cribs to sleep which helps lull them (otherwise they may stare at the visuals too long and not go to sleep). But for keeping them awake and entertained these are great. My biggest complaint about them though is how they attach to the crib. Those straps are soooo annoying!! I hate them which is why I only gave this product 4 stars, and debated giving it only 3. I wanted to use one of these soothers sometimes on the crib, but also sometimes in the living room since we spend so much time with the boys in there. Well given what a HUGE pain they are to attach/detach from the crib that doesn't happen. Plus, the bottom of the soother is not flat, which is another stupid thing. I wanted to just set it up on the coffee table for instance when in the living room, but that doesn't work because its not flat on the bottom. Those two issues (the straps and the rounded bottom) are very frustrating. But for just using this soother on the crib, its great. I dread when it needs batteries though given what a hassle it is to remove from the crib rail!

This toy was an instant hit with our baby niece. She's always looking around at the different moving animals and the different soothing lights. The music keeps her attention and she loves to point and play with this toy. It is pretty heavy though so be sure to keep an eye out on how you're mounting this rainforest!

Fantastic mobile! I purchased this when my daughter was 6 weeks old and she absolutely loves it. My husband had to build a mount for it to hang on the wall since she sleeps in a pack-n-play and it wouldn't attach to the model we have. Anyway, she will watch the mobile for nearly half an hour just kicking her legs and talking to the turning animals. It keeps her very entertained. I love it!

We just purchased this for our infant son and he loves it. The figures point down so he can see them well. The leaves flap which he also seems to like. The music choices and rainforest sounds are quite nice. We haven't used the remote control yet, but sure it will come in handy. He's entertained the entire run time. Definitely a good mobile.

"Sanity saver - SO worth the cost" 2009-11-02
By Jamie Ward (Nashville, TN)
Our daughter was about two months old when she started noticing movement and objects, and I needed a break now and again, so we started shopping for mobiles. I always liked the look of the Tiny Love ones, but the reviews were mixed and the Symphony mobile was out of stock just about everywhere, and in retrospect I'm so glad I got the Fisher Price Rainforest mobile instead.

We've been using this daily for almost four months now and haven't had to change the batteries yet. Our daughter absolutely loves it - both the moving animals and the nightlight. I love the four music selections, two volume levels, and the durability. We're almost to the point where we'll be removing the moving part of the mobile, but the nightlight and music section will stay. The remote control has enough range that we're able to use it from our bed in the adjoining room. This is a great product - I happily recommend it to anyone who asks about it, and will continue to buy Fisher Price products.

"Fantastic mobile - wish I'd gotten it sooner!" 2009-10-19
By Kimberly Lawler (Dallas, TX)
I was a bit skeptical of this mobile mostly because it looked so large in the pictures, and also because I thought I probably wanted a mobile that played lullabys instead of classical music. However, when I saw this on clearance at Walmart, when my son was 5 months old, I decided to try it -- and now only regret I didn't get it sooner! It is definitely a large mobile, but that became a non-issue, and the classical music is great. The leaves and animals move slowly and calmly but have interesting colors and features, which keeps a baby's interest while not being over-stimulating. There are four sound options (rainforest and three different classical composers), which if selected will run for about 15 minutes each before automatically shutting off. No frequent resetting and no winding-up necessary -- a definite plus. There are three options for light/music, light/music/motion, and music/motion, so it's not possible for the mobile to work with just motion and no sound, but you can have the nightlight off.

The music is slow-tempo, soothing and relatively quiet and has helped my son fall asleep countless times over the past six months. We removed the mobile arm as soon as he could stand up, and switched the music/light/motion option at just music and light. He absolutely loves pushing the big, colorful buttons to turn the music on and off by himself.

Practical notes: My initial set of D batteries is still going fine after six months, so they don't need frequent changing. The mobile was easy to assemble and it was easy to detach the mobile arm when needed. The only negative was that the on/off remote never seemed to work for "on" for me -- only "off" -- even when aligned as instructed. Highly recommended.
