 "Tumblin' Sounds Goldfish" 2009-11-02
By Narelle Slaght (seattle)
I got this for my 2 yr old son, and he was not interested in it at all, now I have it in my toddler class age 1 to 3 yr olds and it is not a popular toy at all. Being kids they want to shove all the blocks into the fish at once, and due to this it gets blocked. I have noticed that kids get bored very quickly with this toy.

"This Goldfish Goes Belly Up!" 2008-01-24
By Peyton Imes

My 2 kids have every single Peek-a-block and Roll-a-Round toy ever made, and they play with the Goldfish the least! It is boring and hard to use. Basically all it is is a fish shaped box that plays music, because no little kid has the hand strenth or coordination to open and close its mouth aroun a block!

Of all the Peek-a-Block toys this one is the last one I would buy again!

 "It's o.k." 2006-11-03
By Kelli Hughes (Austin, Texas United States)
I agree with previous reviewers. It is hard to get all 4 blocks in the fish. It only plays music with the first block unless you are lucky. I also find it hard to push the fish to get the blocks out. It requires two hands or it tips over, which is a lot of coordination for babies. It is actually rated for 9 months and up (not 6 months as one reviewer said), but even so, it isn't the most interesting toy. I think the giraffe is better, though we don't own it. This toy is o.k., but it is not one of Fisher Price's best toys. Every child is different as far as what they like. This toy didn't hold my son's attention, but he also doesn't sit in one place for long!

 "Not a great toy" 2006-04-09
By Kim (Ohio)
I bought this toy at Toys R Us because it was on clearance for $7 (normally $15). I like the Peek-a-Blocks, and this one being so cheap, seemed like a good deal.

Good points: it comes with four blocks (although by far not the most entertaining of the Peek-a-Blocks sets) and the music is soft and plays a very pleasant tune; it stores nicely, all 4 blocks fit inside and the unit is compact.

Bad points: it is not very entertaining; my 6-month-old barely looks at it compared to her other toys

This is an okay toy for $7. For $15, there are much better toys out there.

 "Lasted forever" 2010-01-25
By J. Rodriguez
We have had this monitor for 4 years and it just now stopped working. We have used it 24/7 for all 4 years in both a one story and two story house. The night light is not too bright which is really nice. We never experienced any problems with feedback or picking up any odd sounds. We will be buying a replacement one in the next few weeks for baby #3.

The static on this unit is horrible and virtually every night, for no reason at all, the power cord becomes disconnected from the monitor unit and it goes off. I have to push it back in multiple times to get it to work. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy another product. If I could give it zero stars, I would. When it comes time to retire this, I plan to take a hammer to it. Do NOT buy this product.

"This monitor is a piece of junk" 2009-03-18
By S. Sagona (Louisiana)
When I was pregnant the first time, not knowing anything about baby monitors, I put this one on my registry. I wish I hadn't. A very lovely friend purchased it for me and I appreciate her generosity, but man, this thing is a piece of garbage.

The static that comes through is horrible at first and having been using it for the past two years, it's only gotten worse. I find it hard to get to sleep at night over the constant static it emits. Worse than that, is the Spanish-speaking radio station I tend to pick up on a clear night. Hey, I like Mariachi as much as the next person, not so much on my baby monitor.

Next complaint is the volume dial. You have to turn it up past the second setting to even get sound out of the receiver. The first time I used it, I didn't know this and there's no telling how long my baby cried before I knew what was happening. I still feel guilty about that. Secondly, when you turn the monitor off, there's a loud crackling noise that tends to be loud enough to wake anyone else in the room that might have managed to get to sleep over the static and "La Cucaracha".

Now that our second child is due to arrive, I'm throwing this thing out and getting something better. I can't deal with another two years of static and late night jam sessions.

 "Pretty good monitor" 2008-10-19
By mom2two
I have been using this monitor for almost two years and am fairly pleased with it. I like the light feature that shows if the baby is crying without actually having the sound up. It can have a bit of static, but I found that keeping the sound turned on the lowest level with still being able to hear the baby takes care of it. I have not had any problems with picking up radio stations or monitors. It is pretty sensitive to noise, however--another reason to use the lowest possible volume setting. The receivers are a bit lightweight and tend to knock over easily. This is the first set of monitors I tried and I was pleased enough to keep them--I can't compare them with similar products. If you are looking for a decent priced set of monitors that work fairly well, this is a good choice.

 "great monitor" 2008-05-22
By T. Cannon (Louisiana)
we don't use the monitors on a daily basis, but definately use them often. they are great - good reception, love the night light, and the price. we have had only one problem - one of the receivers doesn't accept the power cord well. but with a little adjustment we can get it to work. but we usually use batteries anyway since we use the monitor for while we are outside during naptime. sure, there are better monitors, but there are worse ones too. so i would have to honestly say this is a middle of the line quality but with a super price.

"Two models in two years- moving to different company" 2008-03-10
By J. Clarkson (Albuquerque, New Mexico United States)
We have had two different models of this monitor over two years. The first broke after traveling cross country in checked luggage. Nothing seemed visibly wrong; it just didn't work anymore. With the second, it still works, but we replace the batteries in the receiver at least once a week, if not twice, because the cord stopped working for some unknown reason. I tried to order a new cord from the Fisher-Price website, and was careful (I thought) to order the correct one, but when we received it, it didn't fit.

I am fed-up with Fisher-Price now, and am moving on to a monitor made by a different company. Probably Sony.

While working, these monitors worked fairly well. We never had a problem with interference, but there was some static if we placed it in a "hotspot" in our house.

I hate that this model does not have rechargeable batteries (at least the one we have doesn't), and I only bought it because it's what Walgreens had last time I shopped for a monitor, and we needed it asap.

 "Good product, nice reception" 2007-12-04
By T. Bux (Barnesville, PA United States)
We've been using this for a month now, and I really cannot complain about it. It works well, picks up even the faintest baby noises. The dual receivers are nice as you can keep one in your bedroom and take on with you downstairs or where ever you go.

The base unit has a built-in night light. It isn't too bright, but at 2 am, you don't need much to see. The power button is easy to find and operate. Channel switch lets you switch between two frequencies.

The receivers can be operated either by battery or by included AC adapter. The batteries last a long time. A nice feature are the lights that indicate how loud baby is. This is great because sometimes you don't want the volume up, and with seeing the lights you can tell how loud baby is being.

Overall a great product at a good price.

"Laugh & Learn Learning Great Toy" 2010-01-10
By C. J. Williams (Puckett, MS)
I purchased this for my 7-month old grandaughter. She has enjoyed it immensely. The only problems I see with the toy is due to the size, it is difficult to store and ends up being part of the furniture. The other is with several smaller parts, our 1-year old puppy has absconded with several of them and thus, are now part of his toybox. With the lights and music, it is still a great buy for a smaller child.

 "Not too loud!!" 2010-01-09

This little phone is simple and great for travel. My son is 7 months and he loves it. Also, a big bonus is it makes sounds but they're not crazy loud! It plays little pieces of nursery songs and makes beeping sounds. The little mirror on it isn't great as far as seeing a good reflection of himself, but he still likes it.

 "The Worst Monitor Ever" 2010-02-02
By TexasGirl (Central Texas)
I bought this today to replace a monitor I had that suddenly stopped working after 3 years. This monitor has 2 channels and neither works. All you will hear is a lot of static. OK, not true, you will also hear music that is not playing in your house or TV that your neighbors are watching. What you won't hear is your child above all that noise. This is being returned first thing in the morning.

 "El Cheapo" 2009-10-14
By Melissa Williams (Arizona)
We have the really nice Angelcare monitor at home with motion sensor (which freaking rules, BTW) but I didn't want to travel with the nice one. So we went out and bought this el cheapo Fisher Price baby monitor as a cheap traveling monitor. Wow does it suck. You really do get what you pay for with this one.

Pros:

- Nightlight feature is a neat idea... (see cons)

- The sound-o-meter lights at the top can be seen from both sides of the receiver, which is kinda neat.

- the green power light on the receiver is crazy bright, if your eyes are adjusted to the dark you can almost see to walk

- I can hear my screaming toddler just fine, plenty loud and all that.

Cons:

- nightlight is not as bright as a normal nightlight, it's really dim so it's not as useful as it could be.

- the green power light on the receiver is crazy bright, point it away from your sleeping face.

- very static-y and buzzy. Sounds like a UFO is hovering on my nightstand. (Yes I've tried both A and B channels.)

- power cord for receiver *refuses* to stay plugged into receiver properly. I have to set it just right and very gently let go for it to work.

- tried batteries, which worked, but they didn't last long. could be a common thing but I could swear my Angelcare's batteries last longer.

- sound quality/clarity isn't as good as my Angelcare. With my Angelcare I could hear the tiny whisper of her breathing when she was a newborn.

Bottom-line... if you just need an el cheapo monitor to get you by for a while, or use it for travel, then it's tolerable. And if you leave it at a relative's by mistake, or if it breaks, you won't be too heartbroken. I really don't recommend using it full-time though, not by a long shot! I'm going to go post a review for my Angelcare monitor next, if you want to know more about that one.

By Sarah (Virginia, USA)
As was said before, you do get what you paid for. It hasn't been a BAD receiver considering I only use it every so often for my son, HOWEVER . . . I have only had this monitor for 4 months and it is already broken. The first few times I used it, I got interference, static, could hear each and every word that someone in/near my neighborhood was having with their CB radio friends. The overhearing convos got so annoying that I had to turn to volume completely down and watch for the red lights to indicate my son was making noise! ALSO . . . I don't use the monitor on a "daily" basis, but the volume wheel, which is used to turn the receiver on, just completely stopped working. The past few days, it would turn and turn and turn THEN turn the unit on, but the volume wouldn't change once it was on . . . and it was difficult to turn off. It will now not even turn ON. The thing has never even moved off of the table, so it isn't like it's been being dropped and abused. Like I said before, it is OK if you want something cheap and are really using it very sparingly, but if you want something that is going to work for an extended amount of time, this is probably not a good choice.

We received this at the baby shower and it's been working OK for the past six months. Didn't realize how inexpensive it was until I started shopping around for a replacement. Here are my thoughts...

Pro:

~ decent range, even out into the yard

~ not too much static, even with cordless phones and wifi

~ like the nightlight feature on the base

Con:

~ I hate that the off button is on the same wheel as the volume control. When you turn it on before going to bed, you don't know what the volume is set at and if too loud, the first murmur wakes you. This is the reason we're looking for a replacement.

~ the lights on the receiver are pretty friggin' bright, could keep you awake if you're a light sleeper.

~ build quality is pretty cheap, haven't dropped one yet, but wouldn't want to.
